“If these walls could talk…”
We’ve all said this while sitting in our own homes, wondering the past that the building has held. Who lived here? Who died here? What did they do for a living? Was this home past down through the family? Why and when were the additions made? How old is our home really – is it from 1920 like the deed says or older?
So many questions that can seem impossible to answer.
In many cases, however, they can be answered. Through census data, wills, probate documents, and copies of past deeds, much can be found about your current or future would-be home. Maps are obviously helpful, but sometimes can be hard to come by unless you know where to look.
Historic home and land research is limited to Maine. Why is this limited to Maine only? Maine is my wheelhouse. Maine is the largest New England state and has a very interesting land and building past given then different colonization and ownership periods of the state. Dealing with records specific to historic homes and land is difficult if the researcher is not used to the area as maps – in all ages – are never 100% accurate.
Prior to creating my research plan, I’ll look over all documentation sent to me and email with clarifying questions. This time is NOT billed as I consider this just stretching the brain cells before putting them to work. The more info you have, and the more specific the question, the better use I can make of my time and your money.
In the end, you’ll receive a re-cap of what was found, copies of any documents pertaining to the place, and ideas on what the next step of research could look like.
Please note:
Bramble and Brush will not give out information about the people currently living at any property that is not public knowledge and will limit what information is shared to help ensure the privacy of the living. In most cases, information of ownership will be capped to 50 years prior.
REALTORS TAKE NOTE :
I can also provide this service for those who are selling houses in Maine! What better way to help lure in a possible client from away than knowing the actual history of the home? Use the link above to contact me and we’ll chat.
